Chance Encounter is Latricia Borner’s book debut and an excellent choice. The relationship that materialized between the hero and heroine kept me wanting more. Not only was it a page turner, I found myself associating it to several love songs but the main one was “Wait for Love” by Luther Vandross.
Brooke is a young educated woman who lives a well-balanced life that’s defined around God, family and friends, and her career. With her career on the right track, Brooke is ready to marry Patrick. When Patrick accepted a promotion in another state, Brooke assumed their love was strong enough to stand the temporary living arrangements. The admission of his unfaithfulness and soon to be parental responsibility left a scarring so deep, that the notion of another long distance relationship vanished when Patrick closed her front door.
Chanze Sage is an upcoming music producer and song writer out of Atlanta who has put away his treacherous ways. Despite the fact that he cares for her, Chanze refuses to propose regardless of how much pressure his girlfriend Kelly and mother bestow. Being a man of faith Chanze knows Kelly is not the future missis because of her superficial ways. Tired of the futile arguments and prolonging the inevitable, Chanze knew the time had come for them to go separate ways.
People often wonder about their first encounter, with Chanze and Brooke, asking for directions to his stepmother’s residence was the beginning of a genuine friendship. A physical attraction surfaced from the start but both knew they were not in the position to engage in anything beyond the “friend” zone. Thankful that Chanze was able to be there for her in a time of despair; Brooke’s feelings for him grow stronger than she’s willing to admit. Disliking the fact the he hasn’t been completely honest with Brooke, he searches for a way to correct his mistake; but will it be too late. Can Brooke find it in her heart to forgive him and accept the gift she cannot give?
The author did an amazing job developing the storyline and characters, which is why I couldn’t help falling in love with them. Ms. Borner will pull you into the scenes, feeling as though you are right there watching a movie or listening to a conversation. My favorite line is “Did you ever stop to think that maybe God planned it this way for a reason?” Brooke’s life dealt with many topics but the main one may cause you to get teary eyed.
The epilogue will have you smiling from ear to ear. Chance Encounter is a must read, and I look forward to reading future releases from Author Latricia Borner. Although I enjoyed Ms. Borner’s writing style, I will say that I felt the title was used excessively.

Laurel Cremant is an opinionated author and reader of romance with a wicked sense of humor. RNIC was smart (or crazy) to bring her on as a blogger. In 2016 she took over the management of this site and relishes her new title of “Overlord of Awesome”
