Why did the turtle cross the road? I’ll just make the assumption it’s for the same reason that the chicken did in the age old cliché. But back to the subject at hand, Instant Attraction is absolutely fabulous. (Honestly.)
The premise of the tale is inspired by common territory, that of the one night stand and the murky waters of what comes after the panties drop and sated lusty imaginings give way to intimate knowledge. Will this be the more common reality of two ships passing in the night, or something much more than just a flash fire of feelings at first sight?
Our heroine is a lovable character and in a wonderful turn of events, she isn’t extremely complex when it pertains to baggage. There is a bum of an ex-boyfriend in her slightly distant past and she has a major affection for animals in all forms, be they amphibious or furry. (She’s one feline shy of becoming a cat lady. I really enjoyed that, it’s a new one for me to read about.) The hero is a man’s man, ex-military, ex SWAT and currently a motorcycle police officer. He has a spot of baggage that I can’t quite grasp fully. (i.e., I’ve never met a man who had issues with women using him for sex… so with that in mind let’s continue.)
The story starts out simple: a small town where everyone knows everyone else, a fervent animal lover who stops on a rainy street for a turtle, and a sexy cop who happened to be heading home at just the right time for kismet to turn into destiny.
But from there it gets wet, wild, and sizzling in short order just a few moments later. Not to mention that most women would love to get their hands on a hero who wants something a bit more than a hit and quit. But he’s witty and they have a good rapport together to boot.
There is a trifecta of elements that make this story fun. The plot was light with a minimum of fuss and a refreshing lack of fluffy filler phrases. The characters have chemistry and in spades. And lastly, there are spots of laughter that make this a strong read for those who are too busy to go for the heavy stuff, but want to get spirited away at lightning speed while still enjoying the ride.
