Join RNIC in welcoming author E.W. Brooks to the site! E.W. is introducing us to her novel, Mafietta and doing a giveaway, but first, let’s get to know her.
E.W. how long have you been writing?
I’ve always been a writer. My grandmother communicated with me in letters for as long as I can remember. It ultimately helped me to express myself through writing. Then, after living a bit of life, it was important to me to share the struggle of the single woman and community, so writing a novel seemed to be the natural next step.
What type of music do you listen to?
I listen to anything that moves me. I love songs that tell a story I can picture in my head.
Are you a good girlfriend/wife/boyfriend/husband? Explain why or why not.
I am a great wife, simply because I am never too proud to say I’m sorry or admit when I’m wrong.
Tell me your favorite pick up line, and did it work on you or for you?
My favorite pick up line was, “Wow, You’re gorgeous!” I’d never heard it before and I knew the man saying them would be my husband – and I was right. The words came from his heart and I was sold.
What dish, when you prepare it, has everyone asking for seconds?
I bake a mean pound cake. I have orders for Thanksgiving and Christmas right now.
Finish this sentence: You gotta love a man who…
Asks your father for your hand in marriage.
Why should readers consider buying your books?
I want my readers to learn of the challenges that the characters in Mafietta face. It is always easy to judge others without understanding their situation and circumstances. I wanted to shed a bit of light on a life style that many frown upon, but may not fully understand.
Do you have a single book or character that’s dear to your heart, and why?
Dee, a character in Mafietta, is close to my heart. She faced domestic abuse, but later used it to make herself stronger. You’ll see just how strong in Mafietta’s sequel.
What can readers expect from you next?
Readers can expect an interesting twist as each character wants a bigger piece of the pie. Some will reach the top, despite the cost, and others will find themselves about six feet lower than they ever expected.
How will the reader be changed or moved from reading your work?
I hope Mafietta will shed light on the urban situation. Many are not aware of their potential or the educational opportunities that exist for them to create a better life and in-turn fall into a trap. My goal in writing this novel, was to help the reader understand that there is always an alternative, but – it is up to us to find it. Although it may be hard to admit given her current career choice, Mafietta is an example of a driven women, in her own way.
Who wants to date a gangster? Who would deal with such a headache? Well . . .
Mafietta follows Clarke, a woman tired of bankrolling all of her suitors, entertaining a man she normally wouldn’t consider, a man from the underworld.
Errol, the head of the Bellow Brothers, has grown tired of the opportunistic women that found their way into his path. He was done with love, but meeting Clarke changed all of that.
Their perfect love story falls apart as a tragic turn of events sends Errol behind bars and Clarke is forced to run the family business. When a good girl turns mafia queen, she is forced to choose between the love of her life and the new one growing inside her.

About the Author:
E. W. was born in a small North Carolina town with only two stop lights. Her desire to see more led her to larger cities where she always kept abreast of events via the nightly news and local newspapers. She was intrigued by the stories of those who made an effort at a better life; on the wrong side of the law. Her curiosities led to much research and her writing, “Mafietta” in hopes of shining a light on what the women who aspired to date these types of men would face when they were shipped away.
E.W. is an Army Wife, big sister and mentor with a big imagination. Her greatest joy comes from the smiling faces of those she’s helped to find a bit of light along their journey. She and her husband had their first child this year.
