Dark skinned Dragon Shifters and Elven white skinned Warriors have been in a very bloody war for millenniums. That is until the heir, Prince Arryn of the Elven Nation, decides it’s time to end the bloodshed and finally have peace. So, how must he attain peace between these two nations? Arryn “sacrifices” himself by signing a treaty to marry the daughter of the ruler of the Dragon shifters, Princess Shann.
Arryn expects an ugly fire breathing lizard; however, when he meets her at the marriage altar, Shann is anything but that. Shann is beautiful in her human form and fully on-board with bringing peace between the two kingdoms. Shann is dutiful and vows to be a good and loyal wife to her new husband. This heroine has very few flaws. She is very optimistic and is ready to assume her duties, both as empress and as a wife to Arryn.
Arryn, on the other hand, is very distrustful of his new dragon bride. He even doubts that marrying a dragon is a good idea in the first place. Nevertheless, he is very attracted to her and protective of her as his wife. Shann’s desire is to prove her loyalty to Arryn both in and out of the bedroom. Arryn starts to allow himself to fall in love with her.
However, the main obstacle to living happily ever after is Arryn’s “trusted” advisers. They secretly hate the idea of peace and seek war. They are blood thirsty and want to crush the dragon nation. They sabotage and frame Shann in order to start war again. However, Shann holds the key that could either cause peace between the two nations or cause a bitter war. She must get to Arryn with her information before the war of wars begins and all hell breaks loose.
The novel is well-written. The hero is strong and noble, but he’s a bit gullible in believing his advisers over his wife. Also, I would have liked Shann to be more assertive. She is, after all, a princess to the dragon nation and Empress of the Elven Empire. Shann and Arryn are developed well.
Overall, it’s a good read for paranormal fans and I look forward to the next book in this series.
