Midwife to Destiny was my first read by Nana Prah and I thought it was a sweet cute read. In this story we meet Aurora “Ora” Aikins, a nurse on vacation in Cape Cod, South Africa when she met Dr. Jason Lartey. To say these two were attracted to each other was an understatement. While Jason treated Ora’s wound during a brief accident, he saw his future in her eyes and Ora was just as affected. Ora explained she was engaged but Jason convinced her to allow him to become her tour guide for the rest of her stay. Little did these two realize the attraction would continue to intensify. They were in tune to each other, but Ora vowed to keep her promise to marry another, ended her vacation and returned to Ghana to marry a man she did not love.
Fast forward three years later, Ora was unmarried and once Jason discovered Ora’s unmarried status, he put plans into motion and moved to Ghana to win the woman he felt was the one for him. He didn’t realize the issues Ora still harbored from her past and he tried to convince her they were meant to be together.
This was an interesting story that at times readers will question some of Ora’s actions and theories on why she was not meant to have a meaningful relationship. Ms. Prah did a decent job with character development; not sure if she meant for Ora’s character to work a nerve with her stubbornness. If that was the goal, Ms. Prah succeeded. In viewing Jason’s development, Ms. Prah portrayed Jason as a man, once he realized what he wanted, he would stop at nothing to get it. He was a patient man and readers would glimpse the lengths he went to be with Ora. In some cases, he was too patient. Overall this was a sweet, okay read. It’s a cute romance novel.
