Rescue Me is the story of a black television producer, Maya Franklin, who meets a white reality TV contestant/volunteer fireman and rancher, Seth Coulter, when Seth auditions for a spot on a reality competition that Maya produces. Seth is competing on the show for the chance to win the grand prize of five million dollars. By winning the prize money, he hopes to bail out his ranch, which is facing some financial difficulty.
From the beginning the attraction and heat between these two are amazing, but tension quickly arises. Maya doesn’t believe that Seth is cut out for the competition and tells him so in a condescending manner. She firmly believes that Seth doesn’t have what it takes to last on the show. Problems between the two ensue when Seth is ultimately selected as one of the contestants on the show.
When you add a tense attraction and a heaping pot of money to the mix, a good tale is sure to be told! This was my first time reading Ms. Fowler’s work and I have to say I am now a fan! After I read Rescue Me, I quickly purchased another of her short stories. I adore her writing style and for a short story, she has a knack for ramping up the chemistry level between the hero and the heroine. In this short story the writing was great, the story was great, and overall, I wholeheartedly enjoyed it. If you’re looking for a short read with a bit of fire, you’ll want to check this out.
