Your Love is King, by Adrienne Thompson, is one of the best books I have read in a long time! Having never read any of Ms. Thompson’s work, I wasn’t sure what to expect and I must say I was more than happy with the read. After reading the short bio on Ms. Thompson I feel this book was a little autobiographical.
This is the story of RN Marlene Meadows’ journey to self-realization and self-fulfillment. Raised in a not-so-loving family, a product of divorce, a mother at a young age, and married and divorced herself, Marli struggles to become the woman God has intended her to be. Meeting and becoming involved with Christopher King set her on her journey to learn that after raising her daughter (Tiffany) she could “raise” herself. She learned that she was worthy to not only give love, but also to be loved, despite what her parents always said to her and about her.
My favorite part of the book was Marli’s Theophostic prayer (according to the definition, Theophostic prayer is a biblical based and Christ-Centered prayer style) where she states “in that moment, I understood me for the first time in my life. I understood why I made the decisions I made in the past. And I understood that I deserved much better than I’d ever given myself.” She took time to learn who she was and what God’s plan in her life was.
While reading this book I experienced a wealth of emotions from anger, to pure unadulterated joy! I started reading this novel at 7:00 PM and was so engrossed I did not stop until I was completely finished! Kudos to Ms. Thompson for pouring such feeling into her work, while teaching us all a life lesson.
I have already downloaded at least two more of her books.
