Chunky but Funky, by Marteeka Karland, was a fantastic novella. Even though the story was short, only 24 pages of text, it was well developed.
Ms. Karland gave just enough background throughout the story to establish the long term bond between Amanda and Dalton. She gave the two depth and emotions. Having been best friends since she was 18 and he was around 23, he has been her protector.
While the story tells us that Dalton is a Marine, it does not give us any insight as to what Amanda does, or has done for the past years while Dalton has been in the Marines. What it does show is that these two were meant to be together and that even though Amanda is a full figured woman, she is exactly what Dalton wants and needs.
If the author so desired, this would be a great starter to a longer work. As a reader, I would enjoy reading another story of this nature.
