Former prima ballerina turned house renovator, CeCe Newman, is in for a surprise as a contestant on Design Beautiful. She’s charged with turning a monstrosity of a house into a well-designed, beautiful spa. A win on Design Beautiful, plus the coveted cash prize, means more than just bragging rights for CeCe. The win means she’ll be able to help her sister, Lily, get the medical procedure she so desperately needs to possibly save her life. There’s one other not-so-small thing that no one told her: the property is owned by Brock Thorn, her ex-fiancé.
Brock, a former NFL star turned successful businessman and father to CeCe’s adorable daughter, Phoebe, shows up unannounced. He’s there to help care for Phoebe since CeCe is busy with the show. They have been on non-speaking terms for a while, (CeCe’s choice, not Brock’s), but Brock still feels that CeCe is the only one for him. If he can only get CeCe to see what he already knows is the truth: they should be together.
Everything that can go wrong for CeCe does go wrong. The house that can’t get any worse does, and it seems like someone has predetermined that CeCe will lose the show. But what’s not lost for CeCe is the heat between her and Brock. However, forces unseen are stacked against Brock and CeCe to make sure they don’t end up together.
As a faithful HGTV viewer, I loved CeCe and Brock’s story set against the backdrop of a home design contestant show. The love scenes are beyond hot and definitely keep you turning the pages and rooting for Brock and CeCe to reunite as a couple. There are a few missteps in the book though: a misspelled name here, a wrong name used there, some confusing passages, but even with all of those things I still remained glued to the pages because I desperately had to know how the story ended. With another round of solid editing, this book is a surefire winner that will keep you on your toes and wrapped up in CeCe and Brock’s story.
