Please welcome Leila Lacey to the blog! She’s doing an interview and sharing details about her contemporary, curvy girl the Legacy series.
What is the most romantic gesture you’ve ever received?
When my husband and I got married, we were having some financial troubles because 3 months before that he had been in a coma and almost died. Long, long, long story short we were about to get married and had almost no money. I had gone wedding dress shopping a couple of times and found dresses I loved but could afford none of them. So I went out to a mall and bought just a white sundress… Oh and did I mention I was pregnant at the time? Anyway, I was devastated that I could not at least afford a wedding dress. But I tried to pretend I wasn’t.
One day my husband (then fiancé) came home from work and made me close my eyes and positioned me in the living room and when I opened my eyes there was a real live wedding dress in front of me. It was as princess as you can possibly get.
He had gone to one of the bridal salons that I had gone to, to try on dresses and gotten measured. He talked to the sales people and they agreed to let him know when they had a sale. So one day they called and a dress was on sale that was like other dresses I had tried on and liked, he didn’t tell me he just went and got it. That was the day I knew I was marrying my prince.
What do you do for fun?
I bake, and cook. I love cooking it is my release of stress. I still have not figured out why. But I do know that I like making people happy and I have found nothing makes people happy like a plate of delicious food.
When is your favorite time of the day to make love?
Morning, no comment as to why…. But I will say at night I am tired and sleepy and when I am tired I am going to need you to get that penis away from me. I will get at it in the morning. LOL
What are your pet peeves?
Hateful people, people that do and say things to others just because they know they have the ability to hurt them. Even when someone is on your nerves there is NO reason to be hurtful. Just walk away, emotional scars last a lifetime.
What type of music do you listen to?
All the music I listen to is old school, I like R&B, Jazz, Gospel, Hip Hop and some country.
What are your favorite types of movies to watch?
Action and animated. I am a huge kid at heart! I love movies like the Avengers, and the X-men. But I also love, Mulan, Shrek, Princess and the Frog. I will not sit here and lie and say it’s because of my kids because I would love them even without the kids! LOL
What types of books are on your bookshelf at home?
Romance and Suspense
What is your dream car and why?
Cadillac CTS-V Coupe. Because it is just a sexy American made car. I have always had a thing for Cadillacs
Why should readers consider buying your books?
I try and write from a “real woman’s” perspective. I have been reading romance book since I was 9 years old. I think back to my high school book shelf and there are stacks and stacks of Harlequin Romance books which I LOVED. But the one thing that I can say that I felt then and I do sometimes now when I read is that I can’t relate to these women.
Everyone is a size two, they never swear, they are always calm, when they are angry or sad they don’t yell scream and cuss. They are these perfect women that I have NEVER met in real life.
I write curvy women, with potty mouths, who get ticked off, and yell at the man they love and tell him to kiss her ass. Of course in a romance you want the fantasy, but I can relate better to the “fantasy” if I can relate to the woman. If I can say, yeah I have made that mistake or YES, I have made that mistake. So long story short I think people should read my books because in all my stories I try to write women who are like them, their mother’s, their sisters, their friends.
Do you have a single book or character that’s dear to your heart, and why?
Yes, Phoenix from the Curvy Goddess Series. Phoenix is loosely based on a person in my life that I admire and respect so much.
She has (like all of us) had huge struggles in her life and there have been times that she did not handle them “perfectly” if there is such a thing. But EVERY time no matter what or how hard it was, she got back up, and kept pushing kept trying and managed to do it while keeping everyone around her in stitches! As I write this I have a tear in my eye I am so proud.
If there was any one character that was close to my heart it’s definitely Phoenix.
Which of your books has sold the best so far and why do you think that is?
Dr. Blacks Patient (book 2) from the Curvy Goddess series
I think that it has sold so well because there readers that either HATE the heroine Dr. Nya Black or they LOVE her. There is not up the middle with Miss Nya, and whatever the feeling is that they have about her. They can’t help but talk about her with friends, family, co-workers. Which in turn causes them to want to go and get the book and see what all the hoopla was about. LOL
Shelby Beasley is a smart, kind, and curvy woman. With bad family relationships and low self-esteem. She is the oldest daughter in the Beasley family. One of the richest most prominent families in the south. Her mother is over critical of her and her sister and brother, well they pretend she doesn’t exist. The only two people Shelby has are her father and her grandmother Queenie.
Logan Chandler is an ex-con from the other side of the tracks. Having made his share of stupid mistakes as a kid; he finally knows what he wants out of life and is trying to go after it. He is close to his family. He had a young daughter who was a product of another one of his mistakes, his mother and his twin brother Lance who is best friends with Shelby Beasley.
Logan hates rich people, he feels they use their money and power to break laws and keep poor people down and never suffer any consequences. Shelby is and has always been the exception to that. She was the one and only person he could think of that he actually liked that was wealthy. When Shelby needs his brothers help and Logan has to step in it starts a journey of discovery, heartbreak and love. Can Shelby discover her true power and stand up for herself and love the wonderful woman she is? Can Logan put all his demons aside and share in the love and acceptance Shelby has to give? Or will the Legacy of being a Beasley keep them apart?
“Excuse me, ladies, can you keep your voices down, please.” The sales clerk had her nose turned up at Shelby from the moment they walked in the door.
“Excuse me? As much money as we are about to spend in this store, we are allowed to have a Diddy party up in here if we want to!” Cassidy said to the clerk. Shelby squealed and started laughing hysterically. “Why don’t you get my friend and I a glass of Champagne and take that stick out your ass while you are back there,” Cassidy finished with that distinct southern drawl shooing the sales clerk away.
“Well, I never!” the clerk said stomping away.
“Ha, that ain’t surprising!” Cassidy yelled, “And you never will, walking like that. I think your thong is too tight!” she finished as the clerk stomped around the corner.
“CASSIDY! Stop that and hand me my phone!” Shelby said sticking her hand over the top of the stall.
“Oh, cool your britches, girl. I have the phone,” Cassidy said to Shelby looking at the phone. Hitting the ‘send’ button, she said, “Hey, sexy, how I can suck your dick for you today?” Cassidy said into the phone.
“CASSIDY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! WHO IS THAT?” Shelby said trying to wrestle her way into another sexy bodycon sheath dress that Cassidy had picked out for her to try on while trying to get out the door to snatch her phone from her.
“Ha-ha… Oh, calm down, Shelby! It’s just Lance and he knows I will suck his dick whenever he wants,” she said into the phone before handing it to Shelby over the black dressing room door. Cassidy knew she had better give her the phone before she had a stroke. It sounded like she was wrestling a wild boar in that stall.
“Honestly! Cassidy, I wonder about you sometimes,” Shelby said taking the phone and putting it to her ear. “Hi, Lance! I am so sorry about that,” she finished speaking into the phone.
Lance was laughing on the other end. “It’s alright. Cassidy has been the same her whole life; I would expect nothing less,” Lance said. “She better be careful. One of these days I am going to take her up on that dick sucking proposition.” “LANCE! I don’t want to hear that!” Shelby said flabbergasted. “La La La” she finished putting her empty hand over her ear.
“Simmer down, Shelby!” Lance said laughing “It’s not like I am asking you to watch,” Lance finished laughing
“I swear I do not know why I associate with you people. I assume you called me for a reason other than talking dirty,” Shelby said to her friend looking at herself in the mirror in this hip-hugging royal blue bodycon dress that was off the shoulders with a split-up the thigh. She had to admit she looked pretty hot.
“Oh yeah!” Lance said “With all the dick sucking talk, I almost forgot. I have to leave town in the morning.” “WHAT?” Shelby squealed dropping her cell phone. “SHIT” she said leaning down to pick up the phone. Knock Knock, Cassidy was at the door.
“Shelby, are you ok? Did Lance finally tell you he is madly in love with you?” Cassidy said through the door.
“Cassidy! STOP THAT! Give me a minute. I am fine,” She said finally getting the phone back to her ear. Shelby sat down on the pink velour bench in the dressing room.
