Finding Love in 2015
Turning the big FOUR-O this year made me realize one thing…
I am happy that I found my husband when I was seventeen! After watching TV shows and listening to the popular songs on the radio, I couldn’t imagine what dating must be like for those in their thirty’s and younger….not to mention anyone looking for a second chance at love after forty!
What’s even worse, I found myself explaining to my thirteen-year-old daughter that the songs supporting ‘finding love in the club’ were not to be confused with actually finding L-O-V-E!
‘Love for the night’ has nothing to do with finding ‘love of a lifetime’. That’s the type of relationship that develops over time through countless numbers of conversations, a growing friendship, and yes, those trials and tribulations that show the true heart of a person…not booty bumps and grinding in a dark room with pounding music so loud that you can’t distinguish one another’s names. But that doesn’t mean that two people determined to get to know each other can’t make the best of the circumstances that bring them together.
So how do couples meet in 2015? What are the expectations? What are the results? As an author, exploring the many different ways people fall in love is what I do best!
Love at the Club…
I used this setting for the night the characters of A Heart Not Easily Broken meet, though that is not when their relationship started. A chance second meeting and determination to put physical attraction aside and concentrate on getting to know one another personally is what drew Ebony and Brian together. And when they do, it’s perfect. The trials that they face cross racial lines, threaten friendships, and border on the unforgivable. Yet the love that grows from avoiding that one night stand is what keeps them together.
Unable to find that love in the club? Don’t want to play Russian Rolette with the people you meet online? Do it with someone you know and trust! Hook up with your friend until the real thing comes along!
Okay, it sounds good, but even those relationships run the risk of being left broken hearted. While the friends my lay down the ‘rules’ (yep, there are indeed rules, I Googled it!), as always, rules can and will be broken. Sometimes the results are exactly what each of them needed. Sometimes a friendship is destroyed. Then what?
I read several versions of the “Rules for FWB” when writing Jaded, and thought, this is waaaayyyy to much too just have sex! But, after some creative role reversals, laughter, and a very active imagination, I managed to craft a story that followed two people who swore to never love again, yet take a risk in order to get gratification with someone they could trust. The effects are both good…and bad.
Second Chance Relationships…
What happens when watching your parents’ relationship come to an abrupt end leaves you handicapped when it comes to falling in love? What about those who have loved and lost? Add a new born baby in the mix and it seems you’re destined to grow old alone because you’re a single parent? What happens when despite your best efforts to focus on bettering yourself, you find friendship that leads to love? And just when decisions bring balance and peace in your life, the father of your child decides it’s time to rectify the past. What’s a girl to do? Those are a few of the issues found in Lonely Heart.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
M.J. Kane stumbled into writing. An avid reader, this stay at home mom never lost the overactive imagination of an only child. As an adult she made up stories, though never shared them, to keep herself entertained. It wasn’t until surviving a traumatic medical incident in 2006 that she found a reason to let the characters inhabiting her imagination free. Upon the suggestion of her husband, she commandeered his laptop and allowed the characters to take life. It was that, or look over her shoulder for men caring a purple strait jacket. And the rest, as they say, is history.
