This is my first book by this author.
Melissa is a Chinese/English woman whose mother was a concubine and she observed what her mother had to go through in this role. She, too, is then forced into this role by the man who owns her. He is cruel and abusive towards her and forces her to endure all kinds of torture and pain.
Ethan is a white American male who has several businesses and is a wealthy man and a retired law enforcer.
Melissa and Ethan’s worlds collide when Melissa escapes her owner and travels across the world to find her brother, who she has lost contact with, but knows he moved to America. When she finally gets there, she discovers that Ethan, in his role as a law enforcer, has killed him.
Ethan and Melissa enter into a tenuous relationship which tests the boundaries of what Melissa thinks she can accept in a relationship because of the mistreatment she has previously suffered. Ethan wants to be the dominant in the relationship and he wants Melissa to submit to his dominance! The only thing with this course of action is it runs very close to the exploitation that Melissa has experienced in the past.
This story is very erotic and both Melissa and Ethan have their issues. The story was an engaging read, with a few twists and turns. The story becomes less erotic towards the end but there is a reason for this, which unfolds when you read the complete story.
