Worth the Risk, by Stacy-Deane, is a short story that was actually heart breaking. But, yes it does have a happy ending.
Madeline is a classical musician that when she plays she puts her whole body and spirit in to her music. She also has a secret. Alvin is a music critic that is so mesmerized by her music that he basically falls in love with her. Madeline’s secret keeps her from allowing herself to feel for Alvin, even though she wants to. He tries everything from giving her great publicity by writing a great expose about her, to inviting her for coffee or dinner; but she will not relent.
I loved that she had a best friend, Tamara, that she could rely on to have her back. Alvin had one also, Brayden, but I felt he was a jerk. Since I do not want to give away any spoilers, I won’t tell what the secret is, even though I figured it out on page 11 of the 44-page book. The author does not reveal the secret until page 37.
As with most books I have read by this author, I enjoyed this work and recommend it to others. It tells a socially conscious story that many need to read.
