Tales of an Author as She Writes
I recently went across country by Greyhound, and then by private car. Travelling this way puts you at the heart of America…and it’s a funny place! Humankindness is a concept we seem to have forgotten in this country—the leader of the free world. It soon became clear that customer service is an old concept that is not surviving the new technology driven world of Tweets, Instagram, Facebook or Google.
The cross country Greyhound trip started with the bus leaving late. The itinerary was discarded right away, with the scheduled break stops being ignored. In a 2 day trip, there was one 30 minute break. Other than that, the passengers were told, not to get off the bus at mandatory stops because the driver didn’t want to get off schedule. However, the transfer bus was over 1 hour late arriving, without apology. The late driver then announced we may not make the next transfer on time which would mean everyone would have to wait 24 hours for the next bus. What was that? I’ll tell you: the tip of the Titanic iceberg.
Keep reading for more on this fantastic trip. And send me your stories of great customer service (or horrible customer service) about a trip you’ve taken recently. Where do you write? What helps crank up your creativity?
Love & Protect: Rutland Detective Series Book 1

Love & Protect
“Where do you want to be buried?”
The words pricked the hairs on the nape of Lucius Harris’s neck as he stood in the deserted parking garage, his key pressed against the lock of his immaculate, vintage black Thunderbird. The vocals were distorted as if disguised by a voice-changing mechanism. Before he could swing his six-foot body around to challenge the thug, blistering pain erupted in the back of his head. A bright explosion burned his eyes. His sight returned a split second later, his vision dotted with thousands of tiny stars. A sharp metallic scent filled his nose. He heard the thud of his briefcase as it hit the ground. His legs couldn’t support the weight of his one hundred and eighty pound frame and he went down hard. He had time for one thought: Take everything I have. Just don’t kill me. Then his head bounced on the pavement and everything went black.

Laurel Cremant is an opinionated author and reader of romance with a wicked sense of humor. RNIC was smart (or crazy) to bring her on as a blogger. In 2016 she took over the management of this site and relishes her new title of “Overlord of Awesome”
