An interesting open letter to readers, Barnes and Noble shenanigans, Grace Jones memoir, some Movers and Shakers and of course some Bookshelf Porn…
An Open Letter
Several weeks ago, author Mariana Gabrielle, wrote a great blog post titled “An Open Letter to White, Straight, Able-bodied Romance Authors”. I haven’t had a chance to contact her personally to say “Hoorah!”, and “Preach!”, so I hope this shout out will suffice until then.
The tag line for this website is “You have no idea what you’ve been missing”. I can’t speak for or fearless leader Delaney Diamond, but I can say that our tag line isn’t just some random after thought. There are many readers who just have NO IDEA of the breadth and range of books either written by people of color or containing people of color as main characters for the reading public to purchase and devour. It is a well felt frustration of the authors who write and publish these stories.
As one of those authors I can say that I appreciate every reader who purchases my books, reviews my books, and promotes my books to others. One or all of these things makes my heart smile, but I’m not going to lie, it is hard to get exposure. Ms. Gabrielle’s post highlights this fact and does a great call for action.
I am not blaming or attacking, though to be sure, this topic almost always makes comfortable people suddenly uncomfortable. Yet, I think it worth the discomfort to have the conversation. This is a terribly important topic with enormous ramifications for groups that are already sidelined in so many ways. Are we okay with knowing that Vanessa Riley, Piper Huguley, Kianna Alexander, and Lena Hart have a harder time selling books than we do?
Do we, as romance writers, want to create one more place where it is harder to get ahead for a person of color than a white person?

Oh Barnes and Noble…
More shenanigans and mystery is occurring over at Barnes and Noble…again. They’ve split up their book divisions with paper and digital books going in one direction and textbooks going in another. This is both good and bad. Textbooks are BnB’s big fiscal winner lately, while their paper and digital divisions have been struggling.
Adding to the confusion is that BnB has also announced that they will be shuttering their international nook book store. Sorry my European friends, but you just got dumped. The good news is that it is via an email from BnB and not a Post-It. I guess that is better right?
To round it all out, BnB also announced that they will be expanding their selection of graphic novels and manga. Errr? What does all this mean? I have NO idea. Someone in corporate has a grand plan…I hope.
All this just feeds the rumor and fear fires, that this once media giant is on its way out of the mass market book business. At this point we need Veronica Mars, Buffy and the Pink Panther to figure out what is going on over there. You can read more about it here, here, and here.
It’s Grace Jones!
SO! Grace Jones has a memoir coming out and here is the cover:
Bask in all of that awesomeness for a moment… Am I excited? Yup. Will I be purchasing it? Yup. Will I be devouring it as quickly as I can? You better believe it. The book is being published via Simon & Schuster, and has a scheduled publication date of September 29 2015.
Movers and Shakers
A man blessed—or cursed—by the gods with immortality until he finds true love, finds his match in a woman more unique than he’d imagined; she can endure his past, uphold his present, and sustain his future.
Nikolas Andreyevich is searching for his one true love. He spots her in a Russian bakery and knows immediately she is the one for him. All he has to do is convince her to love him. Sounds simple, right? Unfortunately the gods don’t play fair, especially the one who wants Nik for his own personal use, and Cleopatra Laurens is not a woman to be swayed or controlled, not anymore. Over time she begins to see what kind of a man Nik truly is but will it all be for naught? Cleo offers the greatest thing she has in order to save this man who’s taught her to love again. Will Nik get to keep the woman he’s survived nearly a century to find?
To the outside world, rising star Simone Carter seems to have it all together, including a dream career envied by many. Appearances can be deceiving, however, because Simone hides a dirty little secret that could send everything crashing down at her feet. Using the excuse of her work to keep all prospective suitors at arm’s length, she’s determined to avoid all emotional attachments. But her decision to remain single is challenged when one man refuses to take no for an answer.
The double life…
Paul Winters wanted Simone from the moment he laid eyes on her. When she rejects him he bides his time, waiting for the moment to claim the woman he knows is his. While he waits, a specter from his past comes back to haunt him, pulling him back into the gritty life he walked away from a long time ago. He soon finds himself immersed in a lifestyle that could destroy all he’s worked for, and could ruin his chances with the woman he most desires.
Paul and Simone are both set on a path to self-destruction, but when these two come together, things get hot, passionate, and a little bit…
Isabella Barca is great at organizing—not so great at keeping her nose out of trouble. When Bella goes to work as Mrs. Wilder’s assistant, the opportunity of a lifetime pops up: travel with Gerri to another planet, a shifter planet, and help Gerri find a lion king his mate.
Alyx Treyvaal isn’t known for being patient. A lion doesn’t ask for help. A lion doesn’t apologize. And he most certainly does not purr. But once he meets Bella, he finds himself doing all of the above…except for purring. He will not purr.
With wolves stirring all kinds of trouble for them and a cousin who would like to shred Bella to ribbons, things are not simple for the couple. Not at all. One thing’s for sure, when his mate is taken and threatened, the entire planet will hear the lion king’s roar.
Reader Note: This book contains panty-melting sex (the kind that makes you need ice cream and a cold shower), adult language (we like some freaky dirty talk), and mild violence. If this is not the kind of stuff you like to read, skip this book. However, if you like dirty, raunchy sex with a sexy Alion King on one curvy sarcastic girl, then this is right up your alley. Enjoy!
Some Bookshelf Porn
I’ve decorated my house in various shades of teal, blue and green. Proof is in my kitchen remodel here (yes it is sadly still in progress 🙁 ). Anyway…when I came across this image, I realized that I could fit just one more teal/turquoise element in my design. This door is all things awesome. I wants, I wants, I WANTS!
