Angel’s Blade is my first paranormal read in a long while. It’s also my first read by Ms. Leaf. I’ve added a couple of her titles to my Amazon wishlist and was thrilled to have the opportunity to review her work. I’m also a big fan of Evernight’s titles. Angel’s Blade has a premise that is surely promising although, I was hoping for a bit more in this installment.
Nathaniel is biracial. Half black, half angel and gay. He feels like he never completely belongs because of his sexual identity and the fact that he is not a full angel.
Ezekiel aka Zeke, a heterosexual weapons master, is tasked with forging new weapons for an impending battle. His people have gone for decades without weapons but seek Zeke’s help in bringing them to fruition.
When Zeke and Nathaniel meet, there’s a spark that neither man can put his finger on, but it’s clear there’s something between the two. One night Zeke has a dream that awakens him and leads him to Nathaniel. He has a funny feeling that danger is on the horizon. Of course, the story picks up from there.
I wanted to LOVE this story. The set up seemed phenomenal, but there seemed to be a bit of authenticity missing. Zeke, a guy who is straight and never thought about being with a man, is suddenly gung-ho about being with a man with little reservation? It seemed off to me.
The writing was satisfactory but as I stated before, I was expecting a bit more. Not a bad read, not a great read; it was simply okay.
