Sometimes the weekend is all about staying in. Whether you plan on “snuggling” up to watch a good movie, or veg on the couch or bed with a good marathon binge on episodes from your new favorite show, some weekends just call for Netflix.
Below are some recs for either option: Netflix & Chill or Netflix & Binge 😉 Also you could just have sex…
Netflix & Chill
Starring: Elizabeth Moss and Mark Duplass
Genre: Romantic Comedy/Mind Fuckery
Length: 1hr 31m
A couple (Mark Duplass, Elisabeth Moss) whose marriage is crumbling have a surreal experience during a weekend getaway at a house recommended by their therapist (Ted Danson).
I loved this movie. It isn’t your typical romantic comedy. I would actually hesitate to even call it a rom-com because it doesn’t follow the traditional trajectory of a romantic comedy. It spirals into some pretty unexpected realms, and I really enjoyed it. Both men and women can enjoy it and it provides a proper mind-fuck through-out to keep you engaged.
Netflix & Binge
Starring: Melissa O’Neil, Marc Bendavid …
Genre: Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Mind Fuckery
Length: 1 Season
The six-person crew of a derelict spaceship awakens from stasis in the farthest reaches of space. Their memories wiped clean, they have no recollection of who they are or how they got on board. The only clue to their identities is a cargo bay full of weaponry and a destination: a remote mining colony that is about to become a war zone. With no idea whose side they are on, they face a deadly decision. Will these amnesiacs turn their backs on history, or will their pasts catch up with them?
You don’t need to be a Star Trek fan to enjoy this series. I binged on the first season a few weeks back and really liked it. It falls in my mind fuckery category because one of the main premises of the show is that the entire crew wakes with amnesia. This first season focuses on the crews search for their identities. It is interesting because as they learn more about their old selves they try to reconcile it with who they are now. The multicultural ensemble was well cast and the chemistry between the characters is really good. A great binge worthy series!
Laurel Cremant is an opinionated author and reader of romance with a wicked sense of humor. RNIC was smart (or crazy) to bring her on as a blogger. In 2016 she took over the management of this site and relishes her new title of “Overlord of Awesome”
