Sometimes the weekend is all about staying in. Whether you plan on “snuggling” up to watch a good movie, or veg on the couch or bed with a good marathon binge on episodes from your new favorite show, some weekends just call for Netflix.
Below are some recs for either option: Netflix & Chill or Netflix & Binge 😉 Also you could just have sex…
Netflix & Chill
Starring: Aasif Mandvi, Jess Weixler …
Genre: Romantic Comedy/Drool Worthy Dishes/Food Porn
Length: 1hr 39m
A haute cuisine chef (Aasif Mandvi) dreams of cooking in Paris, but an emergency forces him to take over his family’s shabby Indian restaurant.
I loved this movie. Although it is classified as a romantic comedy, the true centers of this movie are the delicious Indian spices and dishes presented like treasures on the screen. In close second is the hero’s relationship with his parents, followed by his lack of knowledge of Indian cuisine, then his interest in the cute blonde sous chef. Overall this was a great movie that I wish I had found sooner, plus left me drooling for some paneer tikka masala 🙂
Netflix & Binge
Starring: Jay Harrington, Portia de Rossi …
Genre: Comedy/Too Close to Reality
Length: 2 Seasons
In a science-based company, a manager tries to keep control of his scientists while being pressured by his shrewd boss.
I loved this show when I first watched it a few years ago and was sad to see it end. Life at this company reminded me of almost every day job I’ve ever had. I’ve worked with each of these characters at least once (some twice), so really this show was like scientific PTSD therapy for me. The humor is dry and biting, the characters snarky and broken…perfect entertainment for a weekend binge.
Laurel Cremant is an opinionated author and reader of romance with a wicked sense of humor. RNIC was smart (or crazy) to bring her on as a blogger. In 2016 she took over the management of this site and relishes her new title of “Overlord of Awesome”
