Hey Romance Novels In Color! LaQuette is in the building and I’m here to talk about superhero hookups.
I know you’re probably wondering, “What the hell is a superhero hookup?” No worries, I’m going to explain everything. Just bear with me for a few and I promise to get to it all.
My first order of business is to thank Laurel Cremant for being kind enough to allow me to return to RNIC. And while I’m remembering my manners, let me officially welcome you to my new monthly column, State of the Heart.
I’m a romance author. In my opinion, it kind of goes without saying that I think about love and romance quite a bit. State of the Heart is another avenue for me to explore my love of love. The topics will span from the deepest depths of seriousness to the highest heights of frivolity. However, they’ll all have one thing in common, love.
Today’s topic: Superhero Hookups.
Yes, I know, I still haven’t explained what I’m talking about, but I promise I haven’t forgotten. Just continue to bear with me.
A couple of weeks ago the hubby, the kids, and I were having a family Netflix and Chill date. During this veg-out fest, I stumbled across two new-to-me Justice League animated films: Justice League: War and its sequel Justice League: Throne of Atlantis. If you haven’t seen either of them yet, go stream them, or buy the blue rays/DVDs right now. They were EVERYTHING a superhero-animated-film-junkie like me could want to see in Justice League movies.
The plot, dialogue, animation, and action were great in both films. Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for more in a set of animated superhero movies. But, Warner Brothers went and added an on-screen romance between two of my favorite Justice Leaguers. These two movies actually gave me my ultimate superhero hookup and my entire head was like…
Want to guess who the superhero hookup was?
Yasss, honey!!! It was Superman and Wonder Woman. Now, I know I’m not the only one that was secretly ‘shipping these two. To see Warner Brothers do this, bring to fruition the romance I’ve been weaving in my head ever since I saw my first episode of Justice League, made my romance author’s heart dance.
Now, some of you may read this and wonder why I or any adult should care about such things. They’re animated characters. Why is their coupling important? In the grand scheme of things going on in the world right now, this superhero hookup doesn’t matter. But just admit it, for about five seconds you weren’t worrying about the heartaches of the world. And that is the reason this matters. With all the stressors this world has to offer, especially right now, it’s nice to just have a few moments to giggle like a teenager when you see your favorite animated superheroes linking up. Admit it, you giggled right along with me.
