In Playing with Desire you meet Liam Westbrook and Maya Alvarez. Liam has been sent to North Carolina to oversee a project being run by his family. Maya is just trying to live life after a divorce with two kids. They meet when Maya is left at a restaurant to celebrate her birthday alone. From the description of Mr. Westbrook, I wouldn’t mind having my birthday dinner with him either. From the very first interaction of Liam and Maya, you can feel the sexual tension between the two of them. At first it seems as he is just saving her from the prying eyes of the older gentleman that has chosen to sit next to in the foyer of the restaurant, but then Liam talks her into having dinner with her.
Liam is next in line to become CEO but family and past relationship hurt have him in the mindset that a summer fling is all he can handle. Maya is trying to cope with life after a divorce, and her children are away for the summer. Her sister feels a summer fling will do her good and occupy those hot summer nights until the children return. Neither one of them expect life to force them to deal with their past and focus their pleasure and desire on each other.
Reese Ryan was able to blend in past hurts and pain into a healing process full of pleasure. She makes each character search inside themselves and see that they need to begin to heal, that their previous relationships are not how all relationships end up being. Enjoyed my time with Liam and Maya, I was able to relate to each character. There are times you feel sorry for Liam and his past but you begin to understand why he is the man that he is. While learning who he is you watch him transform into the man that he needs to become for not only himself but Maya as well. Maya is learning to start all over again, her life was all about her husband and her children. She learned that she had to live for her and be happy within herself, speak up for herself and not be afraid to love again.
The things that happen in Pleasure Cove will have you hot and ready for the summer. I’m looking forward to the next book.
