WOW!!! This was my first read by Pat Simmons and let me tell you it will not be my last. I loved the way that the storyline flowed so smoothly. Her scriptures were well timed and very appropriate, without being preachy or over the top. I loved how Shae and Rahn seemed like normal, everyday people that lived normal everyday lives. They were not so overly wealthy, or so over the top sexy that they were unbelievable. Newscaster Shae Carmen was … [Read more...]
Review of Midwife to Destiny by Nana Prah
Midwife to Destiny was my first read by Nana Prah and I thought it was a sweet cute read. In this story we meet Aurora “Ora” Aikins, a nurse on vacation in Cape Cod, South Africa when she met Dr. Jason Lartey. To say these two were attracted to each other was an understatement. While Jason treated Ora’s wound during a brief accident, he saw his future in her eyes and Ora was just as affected. Ora explained she was engaged but Jason convinced her … [Read more...]
Review of One Stormy Night by Vallory Vance
This is a sweet and heart-warming story of two people who are in love with each other yet don't seem to admit it. The story is a breath of fresh air and just the right length to read as a break in between longer novels or as a refresher and change of taste from hardcore to more serious novels. The only problem is not with the story itself and not with poor writing but with the editing. The editing is poorly done and I had to reread certain … [Read more...]
Review of In the Void of Lies by Kirby Roy III
In Void of Lies is an interesting tale of deception, adultery and lies in the all too common world of politics. To the outsider, Justin and Tyra Powell have a great marriage. They both have a successful career, beautiful home and they are a power couple. Tyra is a prosecutor and Justin is a lobbyist for Senator Fitzgerald, who needs to get his healthcare bill passed. Since Justin is always on the road, Tyra turns to a colleague for a listening … [Read more...]
Review of It Ain’t Easy Being Jazzy by Quanie Miller
With her debut novel, It Ain’t Easy Being Jazzy, Ms. Quanie Miller has written a masterpiece. I absolutely love this book! Reality TV has nothing on the Peacock family. It’s filled with wild scenes like family members overlooking a mere detail of a grown man asking for lighter fluid and no one is barbequing, or calling the neighbors out in the middle of the street for engaging in extracurricular activities. When Jasmine T. Peacock describes her … [Read more...]
Review of Crimson Footprints II: New Beginnings by Shewanda Pugh
Crimson Footprints II continues the story of Dee and Tak, while treating us to stories involving secondary characters. It takes place years after Dee and Tak’s marriage and the arrival of their daughter. Ms. Pugh opens the door to their marriage, the good and the bad. Similar to Crimson Footprints, this book explores dealing with the past, family, forgiveness, and learning to love one’s self while giving me a healthy dose of drama, suspense, … [Read more...]
Review of Bruised by Stacy-Deanne
Bruised, the first book in the Bruised series, revolves around a murder investigation and the lead detectives. Lisa Swanson and Dee Quarter are determined to find the killer. Lisa meets Jake Jenson and the attraction is apparent as she questions Jake about the events leading up to his discovery of his best friend’s body. Lisa’s main goal is to find the killer and feels Jake is a handsome distraction she does not need or want. His interference … [Read more...]

Review of Purple Hearts by Jessica Lane
I loved this young adult romance by Jessica Lane! You know the writing is great when you can feel the passion between the hero and heroine even though there are no sex scenes! Bravo! This is a story about two young adults, Kari an African American teenager and her childhood friend Joshua, a Caucasian. Josh has just finished an Army deployment in Iraq. He returns to their hometown with plans to confess his love and make a life with Kari. … [Read more...]
Review of Because This Is Forever by Lena Hart
I have a soft spot for love stories when the hero and heroine are from different social circles. And yes, there is one person who doesn’t want to see the relationship blossom. Failure to discuss certain aspects of their relationship prior to investing a substantial amount of time, forces the heroine to make a decision she felt was warranted. The old saying “opposites attract” kept replaying as the story of Mia Trent and Nat McArthur unfolded. … [Read more...]
